About Lake Worthersee

The Wörthersee is located in the Austrian state of Carinthia and to be more precise in the Klagenfurter basin. The Wörthersee is the largest lake of Carinthia by surface area and stretches over 10 miles. The deepest point in the Wörthersee is about 85 meters. Wörthersee is a summer tourist hotspot, this is partly because of the high water temperatures in the summer that can reach over 25 degrees Celsius. In the winter the temperature drops however and it becomes possible to ice skate. Ever since the 19^th century after Klagenfurt became connected to the railway system of Austria. the öbb, Worthersee became a summer resort for the wealthy Viennese. Later in the 20^th century tourists from all over western Europe and beyond started to come to the Worthersee during the summer. On the banks of the Worthersee several towns and villages are found the most notable ones are, Klagenfurt the capital of Carinthia, Velden am Worthersee, Pörtschach am Worthersee, Maria worth-reifnitz and Krumpendorf. Worhtersee is also home to several annual events that attracts 100.000s of people each year. Some notable events are GTI treffen, luxury car treffen, iron man triathlon, fete blanche and the beach volleyball grand slam.

Things to do and see on and around Lake Worthersee

Visit the pyramiden kogel, visit the watch platform and restaurant looking over the Worhtersee with an amazing view!

Boat tour, buy a ticket to a boat tour and check out the lake from your seat.

Visit Velden am see, this town is with its nice boulevard and restaurants is not the cheapest but it has a 1 of a kind view and atmosphere.

Visit Pörtschach am Worthersee, visit the lake side or the little town. Book your hotel here or just come for a day!

Visit Klagenfurt strandbad, this is the largest public beach ( not a lot of sand mostly grass fields with some trees) at the Worthersee.

Skydive over the lake, every weekend you can get the opportunity to make a tandem skydive jump. Fly with a plane from Klagenfurt airport to 4000 meters above sea level and then jump out of the airplane with an amazing view over the Worthersee.
